When it comes to panic attacks, help is more than available.  It is available to you instantly, at a low cost and void of side effects.  Sound too good to be true? I agreed and thought as much. When I tell you I had tried everything under the sun to cure my panic attacks I’m not kidding.  I could only do what I knew however, and only try what was available, so I used the common treatments that we’ll quickly discuss before we talk about how to end this once and for all.

Your heart starts racing, you might get hot, dizzy and disoriented; perhaps nausea sets in and, of course, the out of control feeling that identifies panic attacks; help seems impossible during these, doesn’t it.  Anyway, I’ve been there and done that and while studying cognitive neuroscience I learned some tricks regarding the brain and anxiety; most notably, what causes panic attacks and it isn’t what you think.

Yes, you can cure panic attacks. If I can do it, anyone can do it.  I know ten million people use that sentence to make claims in hopes of inspiring others, so it doesn’t have the zest it should.  Let me tell you that I had panic attacks and I also had constant anxiety.  I believe they now have a snazzy phrase called generalized anxiety disorder.  I had a nickname; nervous Nancy and that’s because I was an anxious mess all the time and no matter the situation.  The only thing more nerve-wracking than constant anxiety is having a panic attack and having one when you least expect it.

After a lot of attempts to cure panic attacks I felt pretty hopeless and desperate.  I was resigned to having them and dealing with anxiety and the subsequently limited life it requires you lead.  I didn’t’ want to drive because I couldn’t go over a bridge; I didn’t want to go out to eat because I couldn’t be out in public and be comfortable.  It was during a neuroscience class that it occurred to me I was having anxiety over having anxiety and that’s when I went looking for a cure.  Lucky me, because I had tried everything else, was desperate and of course skeptical.  If cocktails of drugs couldn’t cure me, I doubted anything could.

Here is a basic checklist of the panic attacks symptoms most people experience and have reported.  Keep in mind there can be any combination, of any of these symptoms, and to any degree of intensity.  Also note there are so many symptoms I’ve only listed the top few to help you rule out panic or decide you should further explore a cure.

1. Increased heart rate: your heart rate will increase and seem to beat louder. You may feel your pulse or hear your heartbeat deep in your ears.

2. Increased body temperature: one classic panic attacks symptoms is that of becoming very hot and feeling your palms become sweaty; some people report this as a cold sweat and others report no sweating but an overall hot flash.

When it comes to trying to stop panic attack on your own it seems near impossible.  In fact, it is hard to get a grip on anything during a panic attack let alone stopping it.  You don’t have any control during a panic attack; your heart is going crazy, your chest is tight; I personally get hot, dizzy and have to get to my bathroom which is the coolest room in the house.  I don’t suffer panic attacks anymore and I can’t tell you how grateful I am that when I think of them it is in memory only.  They are right there though, ready to come back if I let them and when I tell you you have control to stop them I’m not kidding.

Panic Away is the only program I’ll reference because it is a cognitive program that teaches you the cycle of anxiety.  There’s no therapeutic garbage and I’ll admit I’m partial to this program because I’m a cognitive neuroscience, and I detest medications, even though I took more than my fair share in efforts to stop panic attack.  Now what you must do is forget what the drug companies and herbal remedy makers and say and move past the body’s response, which are the physical symptoms of a panic attack.  You instead focus on stopping the cycle of fear, which starts hours, days or even weeks before panic attacks come on.
